What If The Decision You Made Today….Was Made By Everyone?
The last few days, I been writing an article on how to make the decisions that right for you…every time. Most people want to make decisions that they won’t regret but is there anyone out there who can say that has always been the case? The question is, how do you get it right….more often than not….when what’s right for each person depends on so many variables.
So, I have been doing a lot of reading on decision making—-who knew that the average person makes around 1,200 decisions per day? Wouldn’t you like to meet the person who figures out these stats? (Maybe not.) Someone took the time to create a scenario encompassing every itty bitty decision made in a 24 hour period and landed on 1,200. It starts with the decision to get up in the morning, then what time to get up, then how quickly to get out of bed, what to wear…..the stuff on the floor from the night before, or your best-foot-forward-suit, then on and on and on……until you decide that it’s lights out. Decisions large and small and each with its own set of consequences, good and/or not so hot.
Several things I read today really struck home. They were too thought provoking to keep to myself for that future article.
1. Decisions are powerful. When each of us makes the same one, they elect President’s, or fill a stadium, or play a symphony in harmonious alchemy. Individually, our decision can hang a jury, or change a life with a simple, “I do”.
2. Decisions are the only real personal power each of us has. Even if they are influenced by someone else, the decision is made in a singular flash forward within your own will. Yes, our decisions may have an effect on others around us but they start with us—-they are “the buck” we send in motion and we all know where that buck lands eventually, for better or worse.
3. Our decisions have a ripple effect on the whole world. We do not make decisions in a vacuum.
Let me explain.
Are you in the midst of making an important moral decision? If you are, here is something to consider.
What if everyone took the same course of action you are planning? What if everyone did the very same thing you are thinking of doing?
What kind of world would you/we be creating?

Thank you very much for such a thought-provoking message. If our thoughts were pure and our motives were loyal, what a better place the world would be indeed.
While I’m in the midst of making a moral decision, I will keep this in mind.
Thanks again for your inspired words.
Wow. Great question. I just decided to scream about my frustration with Virgin Mobile and to not promote them in anything I write or say because of how horrific my experience has been. So I’d love to see the whole world leave Virgin Mobile too. But then, who knows how that will affect the rest of the world? Does Branson donate money to causes he won’t be able to donate to if Virgin Mobile collapses? You’re right. Our decisions are critical. But how to make a decision without considering all the ramifications? Should I worry more about how I am impacted, or more about how many people my decision will impact?
It become a great, complex conundrum doesn’t it? So, I will sit with this and think about it. Thank you!
Wonderful to think about. Thanks for your continually shedding a light on our days.
